Word Vault Unlimited

Game Overview

A daily 5-letter word puzzle. Solve today's Word Vault in 6 tries, then keep playing unlimited free rounds or replay any puzzle from the archive.

How to Play

Guess the 5-letter word in 6 attempts. Each guess provides feedback: Green means the letter is correct and in the right spot, Yellow means the letter is in the word but in the wrong spot, and Gray means the letter is not in the word. A new Word Vault unlocks every day at midnight (US Central), and you can switch to Free Play for unlimited rounds or open the menu to replay past puzzles.

About Word Vault

Word Vault uses the now-classic 5-letter guessing format. We kept the rules, because they're already great, and got rid of the part people complain about. There's a fresh daily puzzle, but you're never limited to one game a day. When you finish today's word you can go straight into Free Play for unlimited rounds, or open the menu and replay any past puzzle from the archive. You don't need an account or an email address, and there's no paywall.

Some tips for once you're past the beginner stage. Open with a vowel-heavy word like RAISE, ADIEU or AUDIO so you pin down the vowels fast. On your second guess, deliberately use letters you didn't try in your opener. Don't try to hit the answer yet. Just gather information. The most common early mistake is treating the second guess like a Hail Mary. Usually you want two solid information-gathering guesses before you commit.

Watch out for repeated letters. That's where most streaks die. Words like ALLOY, GEESE and MUMMY are brutal if you've spent all six rows assuming every letter is different. If you have four greens and can't find the fifth, run through the alphabet out loud. It's faster than staring.

Every answer is a common English word. We pick the answer list by hand, so you'll never lose a streak to obscure filler or to a word you wouldn't want on your screen. Kids play on this site. The list of accepted guesses is deliberately much bigger, so almost any real word you type will be accepted even when it can't be the answer.

Your stats (wins, current streak and max streak) are stored in your browser, not on our server. Streaks only count the daily puzzle, so Free Play rounds can't inflate them or break them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a daily Word Vault puzzle?

Yes. A new Word Vault unlocks every day at midnight US Central, and everyone gets the same word. Your progress on todayโ€™s puzzle is saved, so you can close the tab and come back to it.

Can I play more than one game a day?

Yes, that is the main difference from most daily word games. Open the menu and choose Free Play for unlimited random rounds. Free Play never affects your daily streak.

Can I play past Word Vault puzzles?

Yes. The menu has an archive of every previous puzzle going back to #1. Pick any date and play it exactly as it appeared that day.

Is Word Vault free?

Completely. No account, no signup, no subscription, and no app to download. It runs in your browser on phone, tablet or desktop.

Why isnโ€™t my word being accepted?

The guess list is large but not infinite. Most proper nouns and some rare Scrabble-only words are excluded to keep the puzzle fair.

What if there are repeated letters?

If you guess BOOKS and the answer has only one O, the first O will be yellow or green and the second O will be gray. Same rules you already know.

Does it track my stats?

Yes. Wins, current streak and max streak are saved in your browser. Streaks follow the daily puzzle, and clearing your browser data resets them.
