Semantix Word Game

Game Overview

A semantic word-guessing game. There are no letter clues — instead, every word you guess is ranked by how close it is in meaning to a hidden secret word. Rank #1 is the answer. Climb from the thousands down to one. New puzzle daily, plus unlimited free play and an archive of every past day.

How to Play

Type any word and press Enter. The game ranks it by how close it is in meaning to the secret word: a low number (like #3) is very hot, a high number (like #8,000) is cold. Keep guessing related words to climb toward rank #1, which is the answer. Sort your guesses by closest-first to see your best leads. There is no penalty for guessing — take as many tries as you need.

About Semantix Word Game

Semantix is a word game with no letters to fill in and no anagrams to untangle. There is a single secret word each day, and your only tool is meaning. You type a word — any word — and the game tells you its rank: how close that word sits to the secret word in a giant map of language. Guess "ocean" when the answer is "sea" and you might land at rank #2. Guess "accountant" and you'll be somewhere past rank 20,000. The whole game is the slow, addictive climb from the cold thousands down to a blazing-hot #1.

Under the hood, every word in the dictionary is placed in a 200-dimensional "meaning space" learned from how words are actually used across billions of sentences. Words that appear in similar contexts end up near each other: coffee sits beside tea, espresso, and mug; winter sits beside summer, snow, and season. When you make a guess, the server measures the distance between your word and the secret word and ranks it against all 40,000 words in the vocabulary. That is why a near-miss feels so good and a wild stab feels so cold — the number is real, not a vibe.

There are three ways to play. Daily gives everyone the same puzzle, resetting at midnight Central time, with shared stats so you can see how your solve compares. Free Play hands you a fresh random word any time you want another round — there is no daily limit. And the Archive lets you replay every past daily puzzle from launch onward (but never a future one — no peeking ahead).

The strategy is genuinely different from a spelling game. Because ranking is about meaning, you're not hunting letters — you're triangulating a concept. A smart approach is to start broad ("animal", "food", "machine") to find which region is warm, then zoom in. When a guess suddenly jumps from rank #4,000 to rank #40, you've found the right neighborhood, and the endgame becomes about nailing the exact sense of the word. Synonyms, categories, and closely associated objects are your friends; spelling and rhyme are useless. It rewards a flexible vocabulary and lateral thinking, and a tough puzzle can swing from frustrating to triumphant in a single inspired guess.

Semantix was built to be fair and tamper-proof: the secret word never travels to your browser, so there's nothing to peek at in the page source. You only ever receive a rank. Solve it in four guesses or four hundred — there's no penalty, just the satisfaction of closing in.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Semantix?

Semantix is a daily word puzzle where you guess a hidden secret word. Instead of letter clues, each guess is ranked by how close it is in meaning to the answer. Rank #1 is the secret word.

How does the ranking work?

Every word is positioned in a "meaning space" learned from real-world language use. We measure how close your guess is to the secret word and rank it against the entire 40,000-word vocabulary. A low rank (e.g. #5) means very close in meaning; a high rank (e.g. #9,000) means distant.

When does the daily puzzle reset?

A new daily puzzle is released every day at midnight Central Time (America/Chicago). Everyone gets the same word, and the daily stats show how many players solved it and the average number of guesses.

Is there a limit on guesses?

No. There is no penalty and no cap — guess as many words as you need. Sorting your guesses by "Closest" helps you focus on your hottest leads.

Can I play more than once a day?

Yes. Free Play gives you an unlimited supply of fresh random puzzles, and the Archive lets you replay any past daily puzzle. Future puzzles are never accessible.

Why is my guess "not in the word list"?

Semantix uses a 40,000-word English vocabulary of common words. Very rare words, names, slang, and non-English words may not be included. Try a more common synonym.

Does the answer ever get sent to my browser?

No. All ranking happens on the server and the secret word is never sent to your device until you solve it or choose to give up. There is nothing to peek at in the page source.
