About DidUSeeIt?

This one started as a joke. I had a folder of weird AI-generated images that didn't quite work for anything else — a hippo at a bus stop, a robot wearing a sombrero, that kind of thing — and Jacob kept asking me to flash them on the screen and quiz him. "What was that?!" he'd shout, and most of the time he was right, even when the image was on screen for less than half a second. So I turned the game we were already playing on the couch into something the rest of the internet could play too.

The trick once you start playing is to not stare at the centre of the screen. Your peripheral vision actually processes flash images surprisingly well, and a soft-focus look across the whole image grabs the gist faster than trying to lock in on a detail. You're answering "what is the scene?" not "what colour was the third object?" — the multiple-choice options confirm that. If you're consistently missing, lean back from the screen a foot or two; it helps.

Why the images look strange

Every image in the pool was generated by an image model and then filtered by hand for clarity. We threw out anything that was too ambiguous (a blurry blob isn't a fair flash) or accidentally horrifying (more common with these models than you'd think). The result is a deck where every picture is recognisable but a little off, which is harder than it sounds in 400ms. If you like quick perception games, our Hue-miliation game is the colour-perception cousin.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast does the image actually flash?

Roughly 300-500 milliseconds depending on difficulty. That's faster than a typical eye blink, but well within the range your visual system can encode.

Are the images really AI-generated?

Yes — every one was made by an image model and then hand-picked. We tossed anything too unclear or unsettling so the puzzles stay fair.

Is it ok for kids?

Yes, this is the version we play with my 7-year-old. The image pool is family-friendly. He usually beats me.

Does it work on touchscreens?

Yes, the answer buttons are tap-friendly and the flash timing is the same on mobile as desktop.
